Aurora Forecast
Privacy Policy
Effective 27 June 2026
This policy explains how NeonCore Pty Ltd handles information when you use the Aurora Forecast app, its notification service and the related Online Utilities website.
Information the Aurora Forecast app uses
The app can use your approximate or precise location, when you grant permission, to centre maps, calculate local aurora probability, moonrise, moonset and astronomical darkness, and show a nearby place name. Astronomy calculations are performed on your device.
To obtain a readable place name, location coordinates may be processed by Apple geocoding services. If that lookup is unavailable, the app may use OpenStreetMap Nominatim or BigDataCloud reverse-geocoding services. Their handling of requests is governed by their own privacy policies.
The app does not require an account. We do not use location information for advertising or tracking.
Notifications and subscriptions
If you enable notifications, our server receives an Apple Push Notification service device token, your language, notification preferences and selected Kp thresholds. The token is used only to deliver notifications to this installation of the app.
For Premium Aurora Alerts, Apple-signed subscription transaction information is sent to our server to verify that the subscription is active. We do not receive or store your payment card details.
The server keeps a notification delivery history for this device for up to seven days so the app can display Notification History. Expired history is removed automatically.
Space-weather and media sources
The app retrieves public scientific data and imagery from government, research and observatory services, including NOAA, NASA, Natural Resources Canada, Geoscience Australia, the Bureau of Meteorology and participating observatories. When your device connects to these services, they may receive standard network information such as your IP address and user agent.
Website analytics and advertising
The Online Utilities website uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate site usage and may display Google AdSense advertising. These services may use cookies or similar technologies according to Google’s policies. The Aurora Forecast iOS app does not contain Google Analytics or advertising.
Storage, security and retention
App preferences and cached data are stored on your device. Server-side push records are limited to what is needed to deliver notifications, enforce notification frequency, verify subscription access and show recent history.
We use HTTPS and reasonable technical safeguards. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Your choices and deletion
You can revoke location or notification permission at any time in iOS Settings. You can disable individual notification categories in the app. Deleting the app removes data stored locally on that device.
To request deletion of server-side push registration or related support data, contact us at [email protected]. We may ask for information needed to identify the relevant installation without requesting your Apple ID password.
Children, changes and contact
The service is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. We may update this policy when the app or legal requirements change. The current version will remain available on this page.
